Hello, friends! Thanks for tuning in to this week’s Tech Tip. It’s actually kind of a marketing tip as well about name pronunciation on LinkedIn. You’ve all been in that situation where you’re going to meet somebody for the first time and you see their name and you think to yourself, “Hmm… I’m not sure how to pronounce their name!” LinkedIn came out with a great new feature that solves that problem. But you have to use the mobile LinkedIn application and dig to get to it to set it up for your profile.
There’s nothing I like better than learning something while I’m teaching something. That happened this week when I was working with my good friend Todd Whittecar and his team at opentext. Michelle Kovitch in Atlanta, Georgia, asked a great question. When we were looking at this name pronunciation thing, she said, “Do I just have to record my name? Or could I record more of a greeting?” That’s a really good idea! I currently have just my name recorded.
If you’ve previously set up LinkedIn name pronunciation, you will see a little speaker icon next to your name. You click that speaker icon and can hear my voice pronouncing my name properly. After Michelle’s comment, I decided to update what I say so that it’s more welcoming and conversational.
In my YouTube video, I show you exactly how to set up name pronunciation on the LinkedIn mobile app. I recorded the screen of my iPhone and walk you through all the steps! And a quick note… you can only set up name pronunciation on the mobile app… it currently isn’t possible to set this up on your PC or Mac.
So please watch the video and get this set up! It’s a great help for people that might struggle pronouncing your last name. And even if your name is easy to say, it’s a great way for you to record a 10 second intro welcoming them to your LinkedIn profile.
