Hi friends! Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve seen more and more information about the “Great Resignation”. Instead of adding to the doom and gloom, I wanted to take an honest look at the numbers and some of the main reasons that people are leaving their jobs.
I found a great resource at SHRM that is a graph that shows the number of people that quit their jobs annually. And the data is from 2001 through 2021, so it’s a compelling visual on the steep ramp in the number of people quitting over the last 3 years. (Source: SHRM Chart)
Next, I found a study that surveyed 37 million people about why they were quitting. The number one reason? A toxic corporate culture. (Source: MIT Sloan Management Review) And no, I’m not going to suggest a bunch of feel good stuff to fix this… you either build a great culture at your company or you don’t. And you know in your bones if you’ve succeeded or not.
I hope my video this week helps you think about these issues from either an Employer or Employee perspective. And maybe one of these things will pop out at you as something to celebrate or something that needs work.
See you next week!
